New Mexico is currently focused on the movie industry. If we could see a similar effort to attract startups, I think we would see a lot of success. We need to build a startup environment. And the community can do a lot for that. Boulder has seen a lot of growth in their start-up scene, part in thanks to Techstars, but put also because those technology companies stay very involved. One community work center (a co-working space) in ABQ that is just starting is quelab: http://quelab.net/ . The plans are moving along, and we should have some space soon(Dont let me kid you, I'm barely involved, there are smarter and more motivated people running it. That coupled with that fact that I'm currently in Los Alamos..) Being able to connect with smart, motivated individuals and sharing ideas helps a startup community to continue to thrive. mayor...ummm..nope, but I would support the idea! I like the plan.
